Subject: Updates to Ontonagon County REA’s Net Metering Program

Dear Valued Member,

I am writing to inform you about updates to our Net Metering Program, in which you participate. The success of this program has prompted us to review its requirements and implement adjustments to ensure its continued viability.

As part of these changes, we have eliminated the program cap, allowing us to accept new applications for the foreseeable future. While this expansion is exciting, it also introduces certain risks to our membership.

To mitigate these risks, we have revised the reimbursement rate for excess kWh’s upon termination of your agreement with Ontonagon County REA. Currently, the program reimburses excess kWh’s at the full retail rate of 21.059 cents per kWh, which includes distribution costs incurred by the cooperative even when your equipment generates surplus energy. To protect our members from absorbing these unavoidable costs, we are reducing the reimbursement rate to 5.6 cents per kWh. Please note that this adjustment applies only to the excess kWhs remaining on your account at the time your participation in Ontonagon County REA’s Net Metering Program is terminated.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new reimbursement rates, Ontonagon County REA will reimburse you for any excess kWh’s on your account as of June 30, 2025, at the full retail rate of 21.059 cents per kWh. At that time, your kWh account balance will reset to zero, and the new tariff will take effect. A copy of the updated tariff is included for your reference.

Should you have any questions about these changes, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your participation in the Net Metering Program and understanding as we implement these necessary updates.  Ontonagon County REA reserves the right to terminate or revise the Net Metering Program in its sole discretion.

Sincerely,

Dallas Aho
